1999 was the year ASHRAE Philippine
Chapter was established with Silvestre Penasales as the
charter president. The Chapter is already five years old,
still young, and yet it has grown steadily in terms of professional
and student membership and has conducted, organized and
sponsored numerous activities. It has forged alliance with
local societies such as the Philippine
Society of Ventilating, Air conditioning and Refrigerating
Engineers (PSVARE) and the Philippine
Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) to co-sponsor
national activities and co-organize international events
such as the annual Food and Beverage Exposition and HVAC/R
International Convention and Exposition. Its officers work
closely with various government agencies to provide advices
on HVAC and R related matters.
To date, the Philippine Chapter has
81 members and 68 new student members (with additional 24
applicants being processed) from among the three student
branches, namely: De La Salle University; Mapua Institute
of Technology; and Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
The Chapter has actively participated in regional activities
by sending delegates to Chapter Regional Conferences (CRC).
Regional Planning Meetings (RPM's)
and Asia-Pacific Conference on Built Environment (APC).
The Chapter was also well represented in the last ASHRAE
Winter Meeting in California, U.S.A. It has hosted the 5th
CRC and will organize the 8th Asia Pacific Conference on
Built Environment (APC) on November 25-26, 2005.
In the last CRC in Bangkok, Thailand,
the Chapter has received the highest Presidential Award
on Excellence (PAOE) points Level 1 category for membership
promotion, student activities, TEGA (technical, energy and
government activities), chapter history, and chapter program
activities.
As a member of the huge ASHRAE family,
the Philippine Chapter will continue to serve all its members
by providing them venues and opportunities to further develop
their skills and expertise so they could effectively serve
both the local and global communities.
